Hunting Strategy…
"to avoid the negative side effects of hunting pressure"

"Hunting Pressure is a phenomenon rising out of the direct contact of humans engaged in the pursuit of wild populations of animals in a hunting scenario. It tends to cumulatively reduce either the number or the visibility of the pursued species with repeated contact on successive dates."

In light of this phenomenon, deer hunting activity by guests of the Cedar Knoll® Hunting Lodge is strictly regulated below "impact levels" throughout the hunting season. This fosters a level of comfort that allows all animals to go about their normal routine without altering daily feeding, foraging or breeding behavior in response to hunting pressure.

After the hunt, the deer return to their normal routine in just a few days if their instinct of self-preservation is not stimulated again by another hunting encounter. Weather, moon phase, rutting activity, skill, and luck are then the factors which determine the outcome of the hunt and excessive or recent use by other hunters does not prevent successive hunting parties from having the very best opportunity.

At the Cedar Knoll® Hunting Lodge, Hayward & Dona strictly limit deer hunting activity to not more than ten deer hunters on Lakeview Plantation with appropriate "rest periods" scheduled between hunts to allow the animals to return to their normal routine. In addition to providing a quality outdoor experience, which does not require a limit on the individual hunter's harvest, this approach also meets the owner's most important long-term management objective of maintaining the integrity of the habitat.
